I am a Navy brat, which means I moved around a lot as a kid. My parents settled in Upstate NY where I went to high school and college. I got my first degree at the University of Rochester where my major was Biology/Geology. After college I went into the US Navy as a helicopter pilot, mostly because school had just started to bore me, and what could be more interesting than flying helicopters?
While I was in the Navy, I was so lucky to be stationed in San Diego and Hawaii, and to have a deployment that traveled throughout the Pacific. Life was good! After my time in the service, the creative side of my brain was screaming - it was hard to be creative when you’re learning how to hover and land on the back of ship. I had always wanted to live near the mountains, (perhaps from all those years living next to the ocean :) ), so I chose to move to Denver to go to school for photography. While at the Art Institute I got top grades, and graduated in the summer of 2008. Since then I’ve been shooting my little heart out, and having a blast!
Very rarely does taking photographs feel like a job to me. Most of the time I just can’t believe I’m getting paid to do what I love. |
